What am I looking at?

This is a 3D view of the UGA Mobility Lab's automated-vehicle demo route. It shows the LiDAR point cloud of the real road with the HD map draped on top, so you can see the map against the ground truth it was built from.

The point cloud

Millions of 3D points captured by a LiDAR scan of the actual road. It is the “ground truth” the HD map was built and verified against. Points are coloured by height.

The HD map layers

  • Lanelet surfaces — the drivable lanes.
  • Boundaries — lane edge/centre lines, curbs and road borders.
  • Stop lines & Traffic signs — marked with red / green pins so they are easy to find.
  • Direction arrows — the direction of travel along each lane.
  • Route challenges — spots that are hard for automated driving (unmarked road, narrow rural two-way, wide multi-lane…). Hover a coloured dot to read why.

How to use it

  • Drag to orbit · scroll to zoom · right-drag to pan.
  • Click a lane or a pin to inspect its details on the right.
  • Toggle any layer on the left — hover a layer name for a one-line explanation.
  • Fit / Top / 3D buttons jump to preset views.
